Gardenmorris has stood in this valley since 1631. For most of its history it has been a family home — and it remains one; the family lives here still, and the land is farmed through the week. For a small number of weeks each summer, the house and grounds are opened to a single celebration at a time. Some come to return to Ireland, to ground in roots their grandparents left behind. Some come for a private estate they will never have to share. Some come simply for the rare freedom of a place that is, for those few days, entirely their own.
And the evening lasts as long as you wish it to — a licence until 2:00am
The estate sits ten minutes from the Copper Coast, half an hour from Waterford city, and within a morning’s drive of the Comeragh Mountains, the Greenway, and Lismore. The nearest village is Kill. The nearest train station is Waterford. Dublin airport is two hours and ten minutes away. Cork is ninety minutes.
Most of our guests arrive tired and leave rested. That seems to be the pattern.
We take a small number of weddings and private gatherings each summer, and we plan them carefully.
